Gaseous radioactive waste generated during operation is treated with high-efficiency particle filters and activated carbon filters in the ventilation system and discharged to the atmosphere through the exhaust gas monitor. The expected radiation dose and radioactivity concentration to the population from the gaseous effluent discharged shall meet the annual dose thresholds and emission control standards stipulated in the Nuclear Safety Commission notification at the boundary of the restricted area. The facility operator shall periodically report the evaluation results to the regulatory agency.
Liquid radioactive waste generated when it carries out decontamination and processing activities is stored in the pool and disposed of after sampling and analysis.
Solid-type radioactive waste generated from the industry, research institutes and hospitals was transported to the KORAD’s management facility in Daejeon before June 2015. Since July 2015, when the LILW disposal center began operating, the waste has been transported to the LILW disposal center in Gyeongju. Most of the solid waste is decontamination papers and clothes used in the controlled areas.
