What is a Radioactive Waste?

According to the Korean Atomic Energy Act, radioactive wastes are defined as radioactive materials or radiation-contaminated materials that are to be discarded.
Radioactive wastes include spent nuclear fuels, which have been used for fuels in nuclear power station, low & intermediate level wastes (work clothes, gloves and replaced parts), which have been used by workers in the controlled area in a nuclear power station and radioisotope (RI) wastes, which have been generated from hospitals, research institutions and industries. They should be managed safely for a certain period according to the relevant laws and regulations.
