It is expected that the operation of low- and intermediate-level waste (LILW) disposal facility in Gyeongju and public engagement commission on spent nuclear fuel (SNF) management will bring a new era with radioactive waste management in Korea.

The symposium aims to exchange experiences on the safe operation of LILW disposal facilities and lessons learnt from on SNF management. Especially, the symposium will focus on confidence building and dialogue with stakeholders.

SaRaM: Background & Objectives

Information exchange and strengthening ties among domestic and international organizations and experts in radioactive waste field for building safety and trust on radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management
- Sharing experience and current status relating policies, R&D and public acceptance on radioactive waste and spent fuel management
Adding value of regional win-win approach through hosting “Open Symposium”
- Improving the reliability of radioactive waste management through participating this program of local residents
Strengthening the level of “Global KORAD” through settlement the representative symposium
- Settling the prestigious international symposium in the future as an international event organized by KORAD since 2013
